Join Bentonville’s Alternative Transportation Advisory Board

The City of Bentonville is currently accepting applications for the new Alternative Transportation Advisory Board (ATAB). The Alternative Transportation Advisory Board advises on all policy matters about trails and bikeway facilities. Board members must work in the public interest and speak for the general community regarding alternative transportation. The board members must promote and foster community involvement in alternative transportation infrastructure. The board shall stimulate and encourage communication with members of the community to ensure that programs, goals, and objectives are consistent with community needs and desires. The board should focus positive public attention on the trail and bikeway systems.

ATAB members’ responsibilities include:

1.    Develop by-laws to manage and provide board direction; 

2.    Serve as a conduit for public input regarding alternative infrastructure or programs. 

3.    Develop recommendations for alternative funding sources for alternative transportation infrastructure;

4.    Work with established organizations to coordinate planning and development with the existing and planned trail system; 

5.    Based on the recommendations of the director of parks and recreation or director of transportation, annually adopt and recommend to the mayor updates to the department's multi-year capital improvement plan (CIP), annual department capital budget and annual department work program; 

6.    Prepare an annual progress report on the activities of the board; 

7.    Make recommendations that support the master plans as it relates to development and maintenance of trails and bikeway facilities; 

8.    Recommend rules and regulations for the efficient, safe and cost effective use of alternative transportation facilities; 

9.    Recommend to the mayor and city council the acceptance or rejection of public land dedication or other donations to be used for alternative transportation infrastructure, or open space purposes; 

10.    Make recommendations to the mayor, transportation director and parks director regarding how to handle and resolve conflicts that may arise from users. 

ATAB meetings will take place the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 12:00pm at the City of Bentonville Administrative Services Building, 1000 SW 14th Street.
